Youth STEM Outreach Event at AEL

On Monday, July 13, the AEL once again hosted the participants of the Youth STEM Institute. Halley Miller led a presentation on aquatic ecosystems and a tabletop exercise in which the students break into groups to create an aquatic foodweb. These helped to prepare the students for a field trip to a stream later in their weeklong program. Haley and Jenny Pfaff led the students on a tour of the AEL lab spaces where they learned about how we research aquatic ecosystems. Haley showed the students the zooplankton that she identifies and enumerates for the LEPAS project, and Alexa Howard showed the students the sauger ovaries she is analyzing to study sauger life history in the Ohio River.
