Dr. Elizabeth Marschall has an opening for a master’s student to begin during fall 2016. The student will develop a thesis project focusing on either 1) coexistence, through spatial and temporal habitat partitioning, of three top predators in Ohio reservoirs or 2) the movement ecology of these same three top predator species. The research will take advantage of a partnership and collaboration with the Ohio Division of Wildlife, Ohio Department of Natural Resources (DOW) in which multiple species of top predators will be tagged with PIT (passive integrated transponder) tags and acoustic tags. PIT tags will be used to monitor movement out of the reservoirs and acoustic tags will be used to monitor movement, habitat locations, and mortality within the reservoir.
Location: Successful candidates will join a dynamic, interactive group of students, post-docs, and faculty at The Ohio State University’s Aquatic Ecology Laboratory (AEL; http://ael.osu.edu/) within the Department of Evolution, Ecology, and Organismal Biology (EEOB; http://eeob.osu.edu/). Qualifications: Successful applicants will be creative, motivated, and capable of working effectively both independently and in collaborative groups. A B.S. degree in biology, ecology, or a related field is required. Strong writing, quantitative, and people-management skills are essential.
Stipend: ~$2,325/month plus full tuition waiver and health benefits. Full Graduate Research Associates (GRA) support exists for the degree duration, with opportunities to teach (if desired). Start date: Fall 2016.
