Areas of Expertise

  • community ecology
  • biological invasions
  • dispersal and colonization
  • multiple stressors
  • urban ecology

I am a community ecologist that studies how human and natural processes interact to drive species establishment and community structure, with a focus on freshwater ecosystems and biological invasions. Specifically, I have focused on three primary research themes:

1) The causes and consequences of human-mediated dispersal

2) Population-level drivers of successful species colonization and invasion

3) Disentangling the community impacts of interacting anthropogenic stressors

My research spans multiple levels of ecological organization, including populations, communities, and ecosystems, and employs a wide range of laboratory, field, and analytical methodologies.
