Aquatic Ecology Lab Vehicles

The Aquatic Ecology Lab maintains a fleet of 6-7 vehicles for field use and laboratory support. At present, our fleet is composed of 4 trucks and 2 SUVs:

  • 2006 Ford Escape Hybrid
  • 2004 Ford F-250 with crew cab and extended bed
  • 2002 Ford F-250 with crew cab and extended bed
  • 2000 Ford F-150 4wd superbac
  • 1996 Chevy Suburban
  • 1989 Ford F-250 Pickup

Vehicles are available for use by members of the AEL and other labs within the department. Users must first pass a driving safety exam and receive general procedures training from the AEL vehicle coordinator before signing out vehicles. All users are charged a flat rate of $0.45 per mile that is deposited into a vehicle maintenance/replacement account. These funds support repairs, gas, and vehicle replacement. Replacement is dictated by the state of the fleet and current needs of the lab.

Our newest vehicle, a 2006 Ford Hybrid

Our 4wd F-150 allows us to launch boats from poorly maintained, or steep, boat ramps.

Nearly all of our vehicles are capable of towing heavy loads and carrying a lot of field equipment, protected from the elements, to distant field sites.
